our Mission in practice
Modern Peacenik is built around three interconnected pillars: art, community, and nonviolence advocacy. Together, they shape how we see peace as something we actively practice in our culture, our relationships, and our movements.
art as cultural change
We believe art has the power to reach people where words and policies often cannot. Through visual art, storytelling, music, and creative collaboration, art can spark curiosity and make peace feel human and accessible. Art is also a space for healing, helping us process harm, imagine alternatives, and reconnect with our shared humanity. Modern Peacenik is actively seeking partnerships with artists who reflect these values in their work!
Art helps us envision the world we are working to build.
community as belonging
We are working to cultivate a growing community rooted in care, curiosity, and shared responsibility. This community is still forming, and we see it as a living, evolving space where people can feel a sense of belonging within peace and justice work. Our hope is to foster connection across differences and create a culture where people feel supported in showing up fully and authentically.
Justice and peace work is only sustainable when we do it together.
nonviolence as a way of life
We advocate for nonviolence not only as a strategy for social change, but as a way of being in the world. Drawing from traditions like Kingian Nonviolence, we offer trainings, coaching, learning spaces, community events, and direct action experiences that center love, dignity, and courage. Our approach emphasizes skill-building, reflection, and intentional practice. We offer a way for people to engage conflict and injustice without dehumanizing themselves or others.
Nonviolence is not passive. It's disciplined, active, and transformative!
Commitment to zero-profit
at Modern Peacenik, we operate completely off of the Gift Economy.
we believe spreading the message of peace and nonviolence is more important than profit, but this model relies completely on community to survive...
