what's a peacenik?

In the 60’s the term peacenik was coined as a way to insult people who opposed war.

We're taking back this negative label and owning it — transforming peacenik into a positive symbol of identity for those of us who value peace, justice, and nonviolence.

Kindness is not weakness or passivity. It takes strength to remain compassionate, especially when we may be angry, afraid,
or divided.

Every person, every community, and every form of life has inherent worth. No one is above or
beneath another.

Nonviolence is an active force. It is the courage to confront injustice and create change without
causing harm.

We believe we are part of something larger than ourselves. Our lives are connected to one another, to other living beings, and to the world we share. It's because of this interconnectedness that we know...what we do, matters.

We don't believe people need to agree on everything to treat one another with respect. In fact, a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds is absolutely necessary. We want to create a culture where people can think deeply, listen across differences, and challenge injustice without dehumanizing one another.

We create art, explore ideas, and develop projects inspired by peace, nonviolence, compassion, and interconnectedness.

As artists, students, educators, and community members, we collaborate with each other to learn, create, and share.

We bring our ideas and creative work into the world through exhibitions, events, schools, communitities, and everyday life.

We don't exist to tell people where to stand politically. We believe peace requires people to think for themselves, listen to one another, and stand firmly against injustice without losing sight of our shared humanity.
